05 Jun Class Focus for June 2nd -June 14th, 2010: Santosha (Contentment)
Patanjali’s Niyamas are the shalts, ethical precepts that allow us to be at peace with ourselves, our family and our community. The 2nd Niyama is Santosha, which means contentment. Contentment does not directly translate to happiness. A content yogi would experience happiness with the same wonder and interest as he or she would experience fear or anger. Emotions are fleeting things. If we allow them to flow through our hearts and minds naturally, they move like birds across an open sky. The practice of Santosha is the cultivation of a level of peace that can witness the flutter of emotions a step apart-living in the present, neither longing for the past or worrying about the future.
