04 Nov Make Your Own Vanilla Cashew Milk
We’re learning more and more about the negative effects of drinking cows’ milk, mainly that drinking it acidifies your PH, causing your system to seek out a PH neutralizer, Calcium. Guess where calcium in your body is stored? That’s right–your bones!!! So all that milk, cheese and yogurt we were taught to consume as children, actually has the opposite effect that we’d hoped for.
Nut milks seem to be a healthy alternative, right? Think again! Have you read the label on your store-bought cashew milk? Here are the ingredients from one I use at home, So Delicious Cashew Milk Beverage, Unsweetened Vanilla:
{Ingredients: CASHEW MILK (WATER, CASHEWS), NON-GMO CANOLA OIL, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, MAGNESIUM PHOSPHATE, VANILLA EXTRACT, NATURAL FLAVORS, LOCUST BEAN GUM, GELLAN GUM, GUAR GUM, VITAMIN A ACETATE, SEA SALT, VITAMIN D-2, L-SELENOMETHIONINE (SELENIUM), ZINC OXIDE, FOLIC ACID, VITAMIN B-12.}
Canola Oil??? Ewwww. Who knows what the “natural flavors” are.
Nourish & Strengthen’s Jenny Harkleroad to the rescue!!! Here’s her how-to video on making your own cashew milk at home. I’ve heard her talk about making it before, but it’s even way easier than what I thought it’d be. (Recipe link below)
You’ve got to try this one out at home. Let me know what you think!
