RELEASE THE STRUGGLE, CREATE SOME SPACE

RELEASE THE STRUGGLE, CREATE SOME SPACE

Ever feel like you’re slogging through your yoga practice? Exerting so much effort but getting nowhere? It’s time to release the struggle and create some space. Loosen your grip. Stop forcing. Relax enough to create some space. Look for where you can send some breath. If you feel the muscle contraction or the stretch in one particular area, start looking for where else you can send it. What other places can you guide some awareness, some stretch, or some engagement to open up?

THE SPACE IN BETWEEN IS WHERE POSSIBILITIES EXIST

I’m sure that you can see the benefit to this on your mat, but be willing to take a look at your life beyond your mat. Where do you tend to push too hard? Do you add more and more to your to-do list when what you really need is space to rest? Do you take on too much at work? Push too hard in relationships? Push your children academically or in sports too much?

When you observe yourself struggling and pushing like this, say, “Look at that. I’m doing it again.” Then take a big breath and ease up on yourself. Ease up on the situation. Back off a bit to create some space that allows you to see things more clearly. Not from right up front, but back up a bit. Take a pause that allows you to watch the situation and THEN decide what to do.
