First of all, thank you to everyone that filled out the questionnaire in my 8am and 9 am yoga classes at the Solana Beach 24 Hour Fitness.

Here are the results of the survey:

  1. Respondents.

23 students attending the 8am class; 18 students attending the 9am class. (Some students reported that they take both classes)

  2. 24 students would like to keep the 8am regular class, and the 9am power class.

10 students wanted to flip flop the class times.

  3. Of those regularly attending the 8am class,

2 students requested that it be gentler, 21 students requested that it stay the same and 8 students requested that it be more challenging.

  4. Of those regularly attending the 9am power class,

1 student requested that it be gentler, 16 students requested that it stay the same and 1 student requested that it be more challenging.

Some other comments and requests that I will try to honor:

More breathing techniques at the start of class and longer Savasana at the end.
Keep going with the quotes at the end of class.
More stretches for IT Band and lower back.
More neck, trapezius stretches.
More shoulder and spine stretching and strengthening.
More hip openers.
More abdominal work.

Some requests that I wanted to respond to:

Slower sun salutations when we do one breath, one move (Response: a quicker pace is used at the start of sun salutations to build body heat, allowing for deeper stretching and deeper poses. This phase of the class tells the body, “O.K. Now it’s really time to move!”)

Corrections take too long (Response: Sometimes verbal cues do not work for all types of learners, some need to feel the correction in the pose. Also, some feel as if they are in proper alignment, but it takes a physical adjustment to learn body position. More advanced yogis might just need the tiniest adjustment to get them to the next level of extension in the pose. Students, please feel free to flow through a sun salutation or move to child’s pose or downward dog while I make any adjustments : )

Wants an hour and 15 min class format (Response: Please feel free to send emails to the 24 hour fitness website so that this request reaches corporate ears. Currently there is no hour 15 min format companywide, and there is no way for teachers to get compensation for the extra 15 minutes in the computer system.)

Thanks again to everyone who responded and I look forward to seeing you in class on Thursday! : )
