24 Jul SHHHH…..WHAT YOUR YOGA TEACHER MAY NOT TELL YOU ABOUT CHAKRASANA/BACKWARD SOMERSAULT : Trick of the Trade Tueday
The killer Chakrasana/backward somersault, practiced in Ashtanga primary series.
Do you keep trying but you can’t seem to “stay in your lane” or your legs go straight up in the air instead of shooting out back behind you?
This can put a serious amount of pressure on your neck, causing damage.
Your teacher may never tell you this: use power and strength to roll (dare I say “FLING”?) yourself backwards with all your might! You need some big momentum. Keep your chin tucked under and make sure that you are using your arm and core strength rather than your head and neck. Have fun rolling!
Note: If this pose is not currently in your practice, then please try with the help of an experienced yoga teacher that can spot you.
